Mass Defection Continues In APC, As Over 20,000 Members Defect To PDP In Osun, Kogi and Benue




Mass defection rocked Kogi Local Government chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) weekend as over 1,000 members of the ruling party in the state defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Announcing their defection, leader of the defectors, Alhaji Abdullahi Isah from Gegu South, who spoke on behalf of others, said they decided to join the PDP because of the injustice meted on them by the APC leadership.


According to the spokesman, their decision was informed by their effort to fulfill the desire of their teeming supporters spread across the eleven wards in Kogi local government area.


“With Hon. Shaba Ibrahim as the flagbearer of PDP to the House of representatives and Hon TJ Yusuf for Kogi West Senatorial District, we believe that PDP has the best team. How can we remain in a party that is undemocratic, where some few individuals in the name of GYBist turn the party we laboured to their private limited company? he asked.”


He explained that before arriving at a conclusion of leaving the APC, several efforts to resolve issues of the promised made by Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello, in 2019 that Koton Karfe would present Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency candidate, instead the aspirant from Kogi was legally excluded through thuggery and undemocratic method.


Isah appealed to all lovers of democracy and supporters of justice, equity and fairness in Kogi Local Government as well as other loyalists across Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency to vote PDP to ensure its victory at all levels.


“Those in support of our leaders political ideology were deceived and treated unjustly, hence the need for us to leave the party for another political party where we feel we shall be accommodated and treated justly,” he said.

Speaking to DAILY POST, one of the defectors, Hon. Musa Salihu, a former chieftain of APC in Lokoja Kogi Federal Constituency, confirmed the defection.


He however didn’t elaborate on the reason behind the decision.


Welcoming the decampees, member representing Lokoja/Kogi Federal Constituency, Hon. Shaba Ibrahim, assured them that the umbrella is large enough to accommodate everyone willing to join the progressive team.


The lawmaker said the PDP would return to power come 2023, stressing that “with the current situation Nigerians find themselves under the maladministration of APC at all levels, PDP would rescue the nation when we return to power in 2023.”


In his own remarks, PDP Kogi West Senatorial candidate, Hon. TJ Yusuf, who was overwhelmed with the numbers of APC members that dumped the party, promised to provide dividends of democracy if given the mandate.


He described APC as an amalgamation of bad omens, whose aims and objectives include, insecurity, unemployment, poverty amongst many, hence need to be rejected at the poll.


He appealed to the people of Kogi Federal Constituency to embrace PDP, which said would rescue them from the current situation in the country.


The numbers of APC members that dumped the party across the 11 wards include; Odaki – 50, Ukwo 63, Akpasu 68 and Chikara North 40.


Others are Chikara South – 222, Irenodu – 67 Gegu North – 74, Gegu South – 244, Tawari – 119, KKF South-East – 185 and Girinya – 366 respectively





Mass exodus hits Benue APC as over 10,000 members dump party



In another development, no fewer than 10,000 members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Benue State are set to dump the party.


The development follows the controversial governorship primary election, which purported produced a suspended Catholic Priest, Haycinth Alia as its candidate.

WeetalknaijaBlog recalls that controversy has been trailing the emergence of Alia as the party’s guber flag bearer in the state as many of the aspirants had rejected the outcome.

The aspirants in separate letters to the APC national headquarters, insisted that the process that purported produced Alia was flaw.


Some aspirants including Barnabas Gemade, Steve Lawani and others have all rejected the outcome of the controversial exercise.


Herman Hembe, who earlier contested for the sole ticket had since joined the Labour Party, where he emerged its candidate.


WeetalknaijaBlog gathered that some of the candidates have concluded plans leave the party and work against it in 2023.


A source said, “How do you expect them to be happy when after working for the party for years and someone out of the blue would be named gubernatorial flag bearer?


“Where is that done?. Where was the so-called Fr Alia when the party was deserted in 2018?


“They want to kill this party, we will help them to finish it.


“As far as we are concerned, we don’t have governorship candidate in Benue APC.


“APC is now Akume and Agada Private Company. Impunity in the party is what will eventually kill it and will are going to help them to bury it.


“So far, over 10,000 members are set to leave the party with aggrieved aspirants,” the source who did not want his name mentioned said.


Asked which party they would be joining, another source, who is an APC stalwart in Ogbadibo said, “There are many political parties in Nigeria. When the is ripe, you will hear.”

In the other news, several youths led by a prominent former member of All Progressives Congress in Osogbo local government, Mr Lekan Oyeyemi, popularly called “Ajagungbade Emir” on Sunday decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State.


The decampees who cut across many local government areas in the state arrived the Osogbo State Secretariat of PDP in convoy of several buses, bemoaned what they described as disastrous reign of APC in the State.



Lekan Oyeyemi especially decried the arrogant and non-challant attitude of APC government towards plight of youths in Osun State.


Lekan in his words said ” it is appalling that anyone not of Lagos cronies of APC is seen as a second class citizen, even in his fatherland. Such trend if not checked by the voting strength of the youths would amount to ceeding our right to the crude impostors”


The youths promised to do everything in their powers as sons and daughters of Osun State to stand against any form election that will subject youths in the State to undeserved abject living standard.


Receiving the new members, The Caretaker Committee Chairman, Dr Akindele Adekunle appreciated the new members for their faith in the PDP at this time all hands are being placed on deck to rescue the state from avoidable ruins.



He urged them to to eschew violence in the course of their activities in the party. He however praised the youths for their pledqge to stand firm against oppressive tendencies of APC in the state.


However, there was a mini drama at the party secretariat as some political thugs and a team led by Emir engaged in fight.


The fighting led to shooting at the secretariat. Several party members scampered for safety as one of the thugs was injured during the fisticuffs.
