Nigerian Breaking News:House of Representatives Fixes Date To Pass Electoral Bill
The committee submits its report. Gbajabiamila encourages members to attend the meeting on Wednesday.
The Electoral Act (Amendment) Bill will be passed by the House of Representatives on Thursday of this week.
Rep. Femi Gbajabiamila, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, made the news during Tuesday’s plenary in Abuja.
Gbajabiamila reminded members that the Chairman of the Committee on Electoral Matters, Rep. Aisha Dukku, would lay the bill’s report on Wednesday, ahead of its deliberation and passage on Thursday.
The speaker invited all members to provide their email addresses so that soft copies of the report could be mailed to them, as well as to attend the meeting on Thursday to examine and vote on it.
The bill proposes significant amendments to the Act, with the goal of increasing the transparency of the country’s election processes.
Electronic voting and election finance for candidates and political parties are two of the most important ideas.
