None Execution Of Old Varsities Projects, Senate Reject Bill Proposing The Creation Of Maritime University

The Senate on Thursday dismissed a bill proposing the creation of Maritime University of Nigeria, Lokoja.

Igbere TV reports that the bill which was recorded for second perusing at entire, was supported by Senator Isaac Alfa (PDP, Kogi).
Our reporter at the National Assembly Complex reports that the bill was dismissed by legislators through voice vote.
While making their commitments, the administrators had educated the support concerning the bill to pull back it following a few reasons including the requirement for more work to be finished.
Alfa in any case, would not pull back the bill, saying he had completed a great deal of work on it.
He rather encouraged the legislators not to join topographical area and different feelings to the bill.

On his part, Senator Barau Jibrin (Kano North) noticed that there was another government college in Lokoja, while recommending that the proposed oceanic university ought to be sited in another riverine area of a similar state.
Including his voice, Senator Olusola Adeyeye (APC, Osun), said there was no requirement for the college, including that colleges the nation over were ineffectively supported.
“You create universities and get under funding. I will continue to oppose every new university until old ones are funded.

“Let the universities in the maritime areas create maritime faculties. We should not embark on 419 for our children until old ones are funded,” Adeyeye said.
Senator Biodun Olujimi (PDP, Ekiti), therefore, called on the sponsor of the bill to withdraw and do more work on it.

President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, thereafter, put the bill to a voice vote and the nays had it.
