6 min

BASSEY NTON NTON: A MOTIVATIONAL WRITER/SPEAKER CONGRATULATES: BAKOR NATION, ON HER 2019 NEW YAM CELEBRATIONS. SPEAKS ON: BAKOR YESTERDAY, TODAY AND TOMORROW.

‘I BASSEY NTON NTON, sincerely, humbly send my new yam felicitation to the good and hardworking people of BAKOR NATION, on her 2019 new yam festival. I pray that, may the infinite mercy love and grace of God, continue to rain onto us as Bakorians (Bakor Nation), may that grace of the Creator that had kept us Bakorians as one, under the umbrella of BAKOR NATION yesterday and today, continue to enrich our love, peace, unity and progress as Bakor entity.
Bakor Nation cuts across Cross River State central and north, involving two Local Government Areas: Ikom LGA and Ogoja LGA. Bakor Nation is made up off, nine clans namely: Abanyom, Ekajuk, Nde, Nkim, Nkum, Nnam, Nselle, Nta and Ofutop. Bakor Nation accounts for about 75% of population and even land mass of Ikom Local Government Area, while Bakor Nation also accounts for 45% of population and land mass of Ogoja Local Government Area in the present day northern Cross River State.
BAKOR NATION, YESTERDAY!
Ideas of Bakor speaking people, to celebrate new yam together and be more united, was fueled by visionary Elites and Elders of Bakor Nation in 1962. 1963 BAKOR CULTURAL UNION was founded, 50 years ago. BAKOR UNION became a pioneer and pacesetter in the project of searching for cultural identity in the old Ogoja province in the present day Cross River State Nigeria.
Bakor Nation and her criticizes (Bakorians), new yam celebration was and will remains an interaction with our kith and Kin. Bakor new yam festival is the period and time where BAKORIANS (citizens of Bakor Nation) home and in the diaspora commune with God and gods. For me, personally as a Bakorian and Bakor people in general see Bakor new yam celebration as: the end of a year, and a beginning of a new era.
As a Bakor son/man. I keep asking my humble self: WHO AND WHAT ARE BAKORS, WHAT WERE WE BAKORIANS IN THE PAST, AND WERE ARE WE GOING TO?
Bakor Nation and her citizens-Bakorians, belong to the “EJAGHAM/ETUNG speaking people”, presently settlement in the old Ogoja province, in the present day Cross River State Nigeria, in a contiguous land mass, with one affinity, one destiny and one ancestral dialect/culture and custom. Agree with me, Bakorians of Bakor Nation are the most versatile group of farming community in the present old Ogoja province in the present the Cross River State, with yams, cassava, rice, plantain, cocoyam and groundnuts beans etc as our annual crops, while palm trees for palm oil, palm win etc, cocoa, coconut, orange etc as our cash crops, to meet domestics and commercial needs.
Some Bakorians had and are on discourse and on research for Bakor origin. ‘Biblically, Bakor is recorded in Ezra 2:1 & 53 and Nehemiah 7:5 & 55’, we Bakorians came from BANTU RACE of East Africa. Some persons believe that: ‘ancestrally, Bakor man parachuted from the skies’. I think as a Bakor son/man, I (we) Bakorians of Bakor Nation may have come from a long way, Bakorians have prospered and multiplied as well as expanded in the BAKOR NATION settlements, we Bakorians have grown in the social and political fields is some extend. Bakorians build on the legacy of: Rt. Hon. Ayip Nsed, Chief. I.I Murphy, Chief (Barr) F.I Nnany., Chief. E.E Monjok, Elder (Senator). Philip Nacoco, Chief. Robert Ntol and Chief. Nserr Ebaye, all of blessed memory.
BAKOR NATION TODAY!
Bakor Nation is happy and not happy by some concede Bakorians, Bakor as an entity is still existing on ‘past glory’, Bakor language, culture/traditions are if not been practice but promoted in a low level, Bakor Youths hardly learn or speak Bakor language, political struggle for supremacy / cultism the other of the day. Considering the present devaluation of the Naira, Bakorians find it difficult to return to farm, those areas whose land are not arable in production of YAMS are now gaining subsequent international recognition.
I join Bakorians home and abroad, and Bakor Nation in general, to celebrate BAKOR NEW YAM FESTIVAL, September 15, 2019. I truly say no to negative and mundane vices/tendencies, I humbly enjoin Bakorians, friends and my non friends to join me, in my motivational wordings, which is saying no to: negative dealings.
I use this medium to salute citizens of Bakor Nation (Bakorians) on the run for the emancipation of Bakor Nation, and asks for youths to be part of the rise in the building of Bakor socio-political structure(s) and must especially the oneness of Bakor Nation to achieve the dreams of our founding fathers, may be today or tomorrow/nearest future but in the future close. Quote me: considering the fact we come from Bakor Nation, we would and should joyfully contribute to the growth of Bakor Nation in any ramification(s), I employ you.
BAKOR NATION TOMORROW!
The general question to us Bakor remains: where do Bakorians and Bakor Nation in general go from here, what is our tomorrow? Should we Bakor disappear in swirl turmoil? And have our identities in history. The best answer is NO. we Bakorians or Bakor Nation should re-invent, re-establish ourselves, our identity, historic and integrity to get more unique nationality. We should all as Bakors survive in gaining vigorous resurgence under one struggle.

BAKOR POTENTIALS!
Bakor have what it takes to survive as a state, constitute or local government of her own if given the liberty and autonomy, which I but it to Bakor Nation, we can achieve it together now, tomorrow but in the nearest future, if and only if, we all put our fingers across. Bakor has big virgin land and land mass for cultivation of food in commercial and household consumptions. Bakor Nation is equip by God as a tourism ethnic group: The monoliths of Alok, Nkarassi, Nde and many more to be acknowledge. Bakor commercial skills and arts are splendored through clay pots and clay utensils, weaving, carving and smiting by Bakor Nation citizens, fishing is a profession by Bakors, Bakor having over 500m squad FISH POND at Oyenghe Nta Clan.
