NYCN: Youth Council To Stage Walk Against Cultism In Cross River

Youths under the aegis of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) Cross River State Chapter will be staging a walk against anti cultism and other related crimes in Calabar on the 1th of August, 2020. This was disclosed by the Chairman of NYCN, Cross River State Chapter, Comrade Dan Obo in his office while addressing some newsmen.

Obo said more than 5,000 youths die annually in cultism-related circumstances in Nigeria with Cross River not left out from the statistics. He said most kidnap and cyber fraud incidents were perpetrated by youths. According to him, the walk is organised to create awareness on the urgent need to checkmate youth involvement in crime.

He urged all well-meaning Cross Riverian youth to come out in mass and register their displeasure over cultism and other related crimes as a wayforward in assisting the government ensure that the crime rate was reduced the barest minimum.

Obo said:-

“We found out that in the last one year, we have not had reasons to smile about our youths, especially when it comes to their involvement in criminal activities such as kidnapping, drug peddling and cultism, among others.

“We are calling on all Cross Riverians and government of the day to take the necessary measures to help youths to shun crime. We are also calling on all Nigerian youths to engage in productive activities. I believe Nigeria and Cross River State will be great again and most importantly, youths must shun crime to ensure development in the country.”

Obo attributed the high rate of crime in the country to unemployment, bad economy and bad choice of role models. He appealed to all Cross Riverians to be patriotic and vigilant and blow the whistle against suspected cultists, human traffickers whenever and wherever they were identified.

The walk will commence from Millennium Park (Eleven-Eleven) Roundabout into major roads of Calabar from 6am on the 11th of August as part of activities to commemorate the International Youth Day.
