National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) is a scheme that is categorized as para military, so her members are classified under that. Corps members are recruited for the one years service scheme with orientation programme which takes 21 days under the look and training of NYSC officials and the Army. Corps members are also referred to as ‘federal government children’, simply because of the identity they hold during the one year service as they serve their fatherland.

It is Al’s important to know that Corps Members like other military force are always on call to duty for the period of the year they serve.

The Nigerian Police Force is not a military force but community security force that is controlled by the Federal Government as it cut across all the territorial reach of Nigerians.

To the question if Police can arrest a Corper..

My view: I will say ‘NO’ and try to defend my point.

Corps Members are expected to be disciplined and that includes the orientation given to them all at camp. Any act off indiscipline by any corps member should be reported to NYSC official and such corps member will face disciplinary panel of NYSC. Which is one of the reasons why a top rank Military Man is the Director General.

Also, serving corps members are always on duty. Obeying the clarion call. That call should be respected by the general public and its entirety. Arresting a corps member over a civic issue is injurious to the call. Any corps member found wanting should be reported to the necessary quarters for the right action to be taken.

Even Soldiers respect Corps Members and show that when they sight their uniform or any other identity. This is because they understand what the call is all about, they know what sacrifice is attached to it and to what length that service should be respected seeing the khaki.

When corps member is reported to the Police force, arrest should not be their next step. They are to invite the corps member to have his own story if the matter and inform the necessary authority through the proper channel of communication.
