Residents of Onitsha are reportedly in panic after a truck carrying cartons of live bullets crashed into a ditch and spilled its contents all over the street in Anambra State’s commercial capital.

Weetalknaija gathered that, the incident occurred on Awka Road in the city on Sunday morning as early worshipers made their way to churches, drawing a large security presence to the Awka Road area and the Shoprite axis of the city.

The truck, a Mercedes Benz 911 model, was reportedly transporting goods from Onitsha to an undisclosed location when the driver lost control and the vehicle skidded off the road, landing in a gutter.

“The truck fell around 5 a.m., the driver and his conductor after sustaining minor injuries tried to evacuate and conceal the content of the truck but they couldn’t do much before daybreak when some police operatives arrived at the accident scene only to discover the truck was laden with a c,” said an eyewitness who spoke to journalists around 6.50 a.m. at the scene of the accident on Sunday.

The police then called for backup and detained the truck driver right away, while his conductor managed to flee.
