The Union Primary School, Afaraukwu, in the state’s Umuahia North Local Government Area, has been closed by the Abia State Government after “suspected explosive devices” were discovered in some classrooms.

According to weetalknaija, the Commissioner for Information, John Kalu, issued a statement on Thursday.

Although initial inspection of the devices revealed corrosion, raising the possibility that they are civil war remnants, we are awaiting a definitive official report from the Nigeria Police Force’s EOD squad, which is currently investigating the incident.

“In the meantime, appropriate precautions have been taken to protect the school’s students and employees, with security sweeps taking place when the school is temporarily closed.

“Out of an abundance of caution, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has ordered security agencies to conduct proactive checks in other vulnerable locations.

Although we thank God that no one has been injured or property has been damaged, we advise people and residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious situations to security agents.
