Policemen On “Plain-Clothed” From Abuja Storm Calabar, Arrest Ayade’s Aide
On Tuesday morning, Oscar Ofuka, a Special Adviser to Cross River State Governor Ben Ayade on Cocoa Development and Control, was arrested by plain-clothed officers from Force Headquarters who were mistaken for gunmen.
Ofuka was apprehended on the premises of the Cross River Broadcasting Corporation in Calabar, the state capital, where he was set to begin the distribution of cocoa seedlings to farmers in the state’s Southern Senatorial District.

Ivara Esu, the Deputy Governor, was also scheduled to attend the drill, but it was canceled due to the event.
According to reports, corporation employees who attempted to prevent Ofuka’s arrest were threatened by gun-wielding cops who sped away with the victim in a red Ford pickup truck.
When the state Commissioner of Police, Sikiru Akande, was told of the occurrence, he reportedly raced to the scene. He was reportedly accompanied by some of his officers who pursued the cops.
“Nobody was abducted,” state Police Public Relations Officer Irene Ugbo said. They weren’t just any gunmen. They were Abuja police officers who had come to arrest him.
“At Jonathan Bypass, we stopped them and returned them to the Command.”
She claimed that Ofuka’s detention was prompted by a petition signed by members of his community.
