Sheikh Gumi Revealed How President Buhari Stopped Bandits From Releasing Kidnapped Kaduna Students

Sheikh Gumi has revealed how Buhari stopped bandits from releasing abducted Kaduna students.

President Muhammadu Buhari’s recent shoot-on-sight order, according to a prominent Islamic scholar, is preventing negotiations for the release of dozens of students kidnapped from the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization in Kaduna.

Sheikh Gumi, who has publicly taken on the role of holding peace talks and negotiating with bandits, told Daily Confidence that he was able to recognize the bandit leader responsible for the attack on the Federal College in Kaduna during his encounters with them, but their physical meeting was halted by the president’s shoot-on-sight order.

We were able to identify him via the organizations we visited, but we were unable to reach him due to security issues, as the government had released a shoot-on-sight order and then said there would be no talks. So I don’t want us to go into the bush and give the impression that we’re helping the government,” Gumi clarified.

The cleric said that he has met over 80% of the bandit leaders terrorizing the country’s north, and that if he and his team had received government assistance, they might have persuaded the bandits to sign a peace agreement.

Sheikh Gumi also confirmed that he and his team have credible intel that can detect and outright recognize criminal activities and offenders as a result of their various peace talks.

“If we had been granted help, we would have met all of the leaders. Almost everyone we met offered to assist us in our negotiations, similar to what happened in Niger State.

“At this point, our skills have progressed to the point that we can assess who is responsible for any criminal act. “The kidnappers’ leader has been identified, but he has never attended a peace meeting with us,” he said.

President Buhari reaffirmed his order to shoot on sight someone found illegally carrying an AK-47 a few weeks ago. The order, according to Mr Buhari, was given to reduce banditry and killings in the area.

Mr Buhari’s order has been slammed by influential voices and legal practitioners throughout the world. According to Inibehe Effiong, a human rights lawyer, the order is unconstitutional, a show for the public, and a violation of the rule of law because everyone, even security officials, can possess firearms.

The refusal of a bandit leader to make any presentation to the ‘unarmed negotiator’ on the pretext of the president’s shoot-on-sight order appears to underline the fact that Nigerian security forces are not incapable of coping decisively with criminals infiltrating the country’s countryside, but they depend on the president’s body language to act.
