Trouble is brewing in APC in Cross River Staye as Governor Ben Ayade’s and his new defectors have discreetly hijacked the party Ward Congress slated for Saturday, July 31, 2021.

Ayade defected to APC on Thursday, June 2021 and directed all his political appointees and aides to move over with him.

Since then the party has witnessed some flurry of activities and forming of factions between Old APC and New APC.

Information reaching reveals that Ayade’s new faction has over ran the old members and have subsequently taken over the party as they have been busy registering their defectors from PDP with a view to outnumbering the old members.

As a build up to the Congress, Ayade was said to be discreetly working with the state Caretaker Committee Chairman, Mathew Mbu Jnr, Ayade’s Chief of Staff Mathew, Martins Orim, and Chief Peter Oje, Ayade’s Special Adviser on Political Matters, to undermine the party leadership.

Ayade had directed during a meeting with APC stakeholders directed that they should go and work out a consensus arrangement to assuage all both old and new members.

Oje is said to be the one compiling names of ward Congress, chapter and state executive committees even when congresses have not been held.

Sources close to Ayade’s faction revealed that already Oje has compiled the lists of 196 wards executive Committee members with Ayade’s men emerging as wards” chairman in about 190 wards with old ones left with about 6 wards.

As at the time of sending this report, sources firther revealed that the Saturday wards Congress is just going to be a formality as Ayade’s group has finished the job ahead of time as the National party leaders is said to have given him a nod to set a functional structure.

Worried by this development, the state Caretaker Committee of the party convened a meeting  in Calabar yesterday and expressed their shock and disappointment at Ayade’s grab-it-all-attitide that made PDP stakeholders fight him to a standstill.

They members decried the plot to deny the old members from participating in the Congress by first denying them access to nomination forms, directing all those interested party members in holding offices  to go ahead and buy the forms in readiness for the Saturday’s Congress.

They bemoaned the directive by Ayade that nobody should buy nomination forms as has already paid for all the woukd-be candidates or aspirants as the case may be.

They vowed to fight as they cannot just sit back and see new members take the party they laboured laboured for years to build and maintain.

They further revealed that since Ayade crossed over to the pity he has not done anything tangible to show that he has come to breath life into the party.

A member of the State Caretaker Committee; who don’t to be quoted, said till today the party secretariat at Marain has no light, no water and furniture but all Ayade wants is just to come and grab party structure that they denied him in PDP.

He said: “We were happy he came over. But we thought he would have changed his attitude to party politicking. But we shall not allow that to happen because APC old members would no tolerate that from him.

“We would act at the appropriate time and let him.know that we are not fools. He cannot be running g the party from his office with Peter Oje and neglecting the party leadership.”
