Support Bandits To Stop Kidnappings — Sheikh Gumi Warns FG

Sheikh Gumi has warned Federal Government to Support Bandits to Stop Kidnappings.

Sheik Ahmad Gumi, a revered Islamic cleric, has recommended the Federal Government to back bandit splinter groups as a means of ending mass abductions of schoolchildren.

Gumi, who spoke to The PUNCH on the phone on Wednesday about the abduction of 200 Islamiyya kids in Niger State’s Rafi Local Government Area, said many bandits were willing to talk and that the government should use them to combat the “ugly ones.”

“We always try our hardest,” he replied, “but you know, you need two hands to shake.” You’re well aware that these folks (bandits) require engagements from the government. It’s a problem if you talk to them without the involvement of the government.

“The government must be proactive in dealing with them. We have a large number of them ready to combat the bad guys. When you’re done with the ugly, use the bad to fight the bad ones, and when you’re done with the ugly, use the good to fight the bad ones. Take a look of Boko Haram’s destruction of Shekau. Wasn’t it the splinter group that did it? So it’s simple.

“All of these agitations you see, if the government can create a splinter group and empower the splinter group, every guy wants power and money, and they will perform your job. Many people are willing to give up their rights. All the people you see me meeting in the woods are telling us, ‘We are ready.'”
