Cross River Govt Seeks Improved Patronage, Utilization Of Family Planning Services

The Cross River State Government is seeking improved patronage and adoption of family planning services to check the increasing rate of child abandonment in the state.

The Director General of the Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency made the accession when she spoke with some rural dwellers in Becheve, obanliku Local Government Area of Cross River State while sensitizing them on the importance of family planning and ways of choosing best adoptive measures.

The DG said, the move is on the hills of the recently abandoned set of twins in Calabar and other reported sets of children dumped in various waste bins and areas across the state as a result of low patronage of family planning services.

Dr Ekpenyong further said, with the state primary Health Centres providing various family planning services both injectable, pills and the barrier methods(condoms), young people who are sexually active should take advantage of it and present themselves for counseling and eventual utilization of their most preferred method.

She however thanked the Governor, Senator professor Ben Ayade for striving to meet the health needs of Cross Riverians and residents across the 18 Local Government Areas of the state.
One of the beneficiary who spoke, expressed appreciation for the enlightenment and the Condoms shared saying it will help reduce the in incidence of teenage pregnancy and child abandonment in Becheve and across Obanliku.

Condom is said to be one of the most effective contraceptive as it does not only act as barrier from unplanned pregnancy but also helps in checking sexually transmitted diseases and as such should be provided to meet the health needs of the people.
