2 min

Today (June 12 ) in history, remains the mark to the turning point of democracy in the chronicles of Nigeria as a nation. It is a day where Nigerians, irrespective of ethnic, religion, social status, and other prejudices, spoke in unity, love, and harmony. In this days several years ago, Nigeria in one mind, worked to elect their leaders in one of the freest and fairest elections ever.

The nation’s path was restructured in the direction of the best system of governance in this day. It was indeed a day that brought everyone on board for effective and inclusive participation.

The role played by the heroes and heroines against the military government to achieve the beginning of this turning point in the nation’s democracy is still fresh on our minds.

It has been twenty-one years of unbroken democracy in our country. Twenty-one years since the nation joined the league of democratic nations in the world.

I, sincerely commend the courage of the Digital Governor of cross River state, Senator Professor Ben. Ayade. I also appreciate the effort of the Nigerian Legislature and everyone who made today a reality and a day worthy of celebration.

As we celebrate the nation’s twenty -one years of unbroken democracy, this is a clarion call for retrospection on the past, consideration for the presence and a progressive thought for the future on how to make the system work better. This will make the vision and dreams of the martyr of our democracy to be maximized.
