The police in Ugep have arrested one Omini Otana for allegedly assaulting his neighbour with a cutlass over a nine thousand naira debt.

The suspect (Friday Joseph) was arrested Tuesday in Idomi, a community in Yakurr local government, where he has been in hiding for about a week.

The police had earlier arrested the suspect’s wife over her involvement in the case, but later released her when the husband, who is alleged to have committed the act was later arrested.

“The arrest was made possible by combined efforts from youths of Idomi and Ugep communities. We launched a man haunt and sent information around to enable us arrest him. Fortunately this week, we got intelligence report that the person we are looking for is hiding at his wife’s place in Idomi. That was how we informed the police and he was finally arrested,” said one of the youth leaders, Elvis Emmanuel.

It was also gathered that prior to his arrest, some angry youths in the area had attempted to lynch the suspect before the Police quickly intervened.

The suspect is currently in Police custody, with insinuations from close quarters that he will be charged to court in the coming days.

Efforts to get comments from the Police on the matter as at press time proved abortive, as phone calls to the DPO of the station where the suspect is been detained could not go through.
