Panic As Unknown Gunmen Moves Closer To Cross River, Killed Policemen, Set Police Station Ablaze In Akwa Ibom
The Executive Chairman of Ikono Local Government Area received a distress call at 3 a.m. today, Saturday, May 1, 2021, about the invasion of the police station at Ibiaku Ntok Okpo by criminals alleged to be members of the Eastern Security Network (ESN). Two police officers were killed, five cars were burned, and a policewoman on night duty was seriously wounded in the ensuing brawl, which also saw the flag hoisted at the police station stolen and the invaders carry out destructive actions.
When Hon. Nyakno Okoibu received the alarming information, he swung into action with his retinue of aides, in keeping with his pragmatic approach to governance and as the Chief Security Officer of the Local Government Area. When they arrived at the site, they discovered that the report was right, much to the chagrin of the Council Boss. The Chairman, on the other hand, has been taking overarching steps as a proactive administrator to ensure that normalcy is restored to the attack region and other parts of the Local Government Area.
The Executive Chairman of Ikono wishes to remind the citizens of Ikono Local Government Area and the State at large to remain calm as he works diligently with relevant security agencies to ensure that the situation is contained and that appropriate steps are taken to prevent a recurrence. Within Ikono’s perimeters, attempts are also being made to strengthen the security architecture.
The Executive Chairman wishes to inform the people of Ikono that he is working closely with His Excellency, the State’s Chief Security Officer. All appropriate apparatus will be enabled, Governor Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, to ensure that the perpetrators of this heinous crime are arrested and brought to justice. Over the years, Akwa Ibom State has earned a reputation for being a peaceful state where residents’ lives and property are safe and protected. The story isn’t going to change now.
All residents of the Local Government Area can go about their daily lives without fear of being attacked, harassed, or intimidated. Since speaking with the State’s Executive Governor, the Chairman is on top of the situation and will communicate the next course of action. All residents of the LGA are encouraged to increase their security awareness and report any suspicious activity to security agents. Also, anyone with useful information about the attack should come forward because strict confidentiality is guaranteed.
There’s no need to be concerned; this foul wind will be decimated with extreme precision.
Meanwhile, weetalknaija understands that Cross River is vulnerable to infiltration because it shares borders with Akwa Ibom, Benue, and Ebonyi states.
