Unrest In Aso Rock Villa As Presidency Names Those Plotting Coup To Overthrow President Buhari
Religious and former political leaders have been identified by the presidency as the masterminds behind the alleged coup attempt to depose Buhari.
Weetalknaija reports that, the Presidency has received information about an alleged conspiracy by some Nigerians collaborating with foreign elements to destabilize the current administration.
The Presidency attributed its accusation to a recent warning by the Department of State Services, according to Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity (DSS).
While promising to deal decisively with the suspected plot and its masterminds, the Presidency emphasized that the Muhammadu Buhari-led administration was legally established through a common election procedure.
The Presidency claimed to have evidence to back up its allegations of attempts to overthrow the government, pointing to some unidentified religious and former political figures as masterminds.
According to the statement, the Presidency noticed that recent agitations by various groups and individuals were organized with the aim of creating an environment conducive to a vote of no confidence in President Buhari.
It, on the other hand, promised to do whatever it takes to keep the nation together throughout the remaining days of the current administration’s term in 2023, regardless of whose ox will be gored.
“On Sunday, the Department of State Services (DSS) issued an alert about nefarious plots by misguided elements to destabilize the country’s democracy, sovereignty, and corporate life.
“The plan, championed by some disgruntled religious and former political leaders, is to throw the nation into chaos, forcing a forceful and undemocratic change of leadership.
“Further unimpeachable proof suggests that these disruptive forces are now hiring the leadership of certain ethnic groups and politicians around the country in order to convene some kind of meeting, where a vote of no confidence in the President will be passed, further causing the country to be thrown into chaos.
“These elements’ recent caterwauling is intended to adequately prepare the ground for their ignoble plans, which are planned to cause more grief for the country.
“Through deception and sleight of hand, the agent provocateurs intend to accomplish what they failed to achieve through the ballot box in the 2019 elections.
“Nigerians have chosen democracy, and the only agreed method of changing a constitutionally elected government is through elections, which are held at predetermined intervals in the country. Any other method is clearly unconstitutional, if not treasonous. Of course, this will have the expected implications.
“These discredited individuals and organizations are now working with outside powers to inflict maximum harm on their own government.
“However, the Presidency, which has already been entrusted with Nigerians’ mandate and authority until 2023, pledges to hold the nation united, even if some unruly feathers are ruffled in the process,” the statement reads.
