IPOB Storms Hope Uzodinma’s Office in Owerri, and Moves To Rename Imo Government House After Late ESN Commander, Ikonso

The Indigenous People of Biafra have requested that the Imo State Government House be named after Ikonso, the commander of the Eastern Security Network, who was killed by security operatives on Saturday.

The community also claimed that Douglas Road and Awomamma Junction, the locations of the joint operation that ended his life, should be named after him.

On Saturday, operatives of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Police, and the State Security Service killed Ikonso and six other members of the ESN, though there have been conflicting reports of how he was killed.

Although Nigerian security forces say Ikonso was killed in a gunfight at the ESN camp, the IPOB claims he was murdered while sleeping in his father’s camp.

Ikonso must be immortalized for his courage in defending the citizens of Imo state against the terror of killer Fulani herdsmen, the IPOB said in a statement issued by its spokesman, Emma Strong, on Wednesday.

The group said in a statement titled, “Imo Government House, Douglas Road Owerri Named After Ikonso The Brave ESN Commander Murdered By Nigeria Security Agents – IPOB,” that all governmental institutions in the state must comply to rename such places after its fallen commander.

“We, the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Biafrans around the world, led by our great and indomitable leader Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, wish to announce to the world our unanimous decision to rename the Imo State Government House, Douglas Road Owerri, and Awomamma Junction after the late heroic Commander of the Eastern Security Network (ESN), Ikonso, who was murdered in cold blood by cowards.

“Ikonso Government House, Ikonso Way, and Ikonso Junction will now be known as Ikonso Government House, Ikonso Way, and Ikonso Junction, respectively. This is effective immediately, and all ministries and parastatals are expected to comply starting today, April 28th, 2021.

“This decision is one of the ways IPOB members and Biafrans around the world have decided to immortalize the name of our valiant Ikonso and his men, who were killed by callous, cowardly Nigerian security agents who flee from terrorists and bandits but delight in killing unarmed Biafra agitators.

“Ikonso and the other fallen heroes with him did nothing to deserve to be executed without trial. They gave the ultimate sacrifice in the fight against Fulani terrorists, jihadists, and killer herdsmen in defense of our ancestral homeland. They will be remembered in Biafra forever. Imo Government House is renamed by IPOB.

“As a result, we expect full cooperation from relevant government agencies, officials, and the Imo State House of Assembly because we don’t know who Douglas is (to the extent that a road in Owerri is named after him), but we do know who Ikonso was. He defended Imo State with his life, because without him, most Imo indigenes would be in IDP camps by now, thanks to Fulani terrorists,” according to the statement.
