Urban Development: Greater Calabar Capital City Development Agency Partners Bakassi LG

In line with the policy of Sir Ben Ayade gear towards decongesting Calabar Metropolis, the government of Senator Ben Ayade created the “Greater Calabar Capital City Development Agency” (GCCCDA).

The agency which was passed into law by the Cross River State House of Assembly, according to the law (Law No.2 2016), the agency shall be a Special Development Area in Cross River State, created from Calabar Municipal, Calabar South, Akpabuyo, Bakassi, Odukpani, Akamkpa and Biase Local Government Areas in the state.

Furthermore, the law stated that, the City shall compromise of all the areas of land as may be designated by an order issued under the hand of the Governor of the state.

Speaking to newsmen in Bakassi Local Government Area during a courtesy visit to the council chairman, the Director General (DG) of the Agency, Hon. Kingsley Ikpeme disclosed that as an agency saddled with the responsibility of decongesting and expanding development to the seven local government areas in southern senatorial district, they cannot do it alone as an agency, but they need the support of all the top government officials in the area so as to enable them achieve the agency’s goals.

The statement read;
“As an agency, our duty is to ensure urban development gets to all the seven local government areas, we cannot do this alone, we won’t work in isolation, we need all your support to achieve the dream of our Governor, Sir Ben Ayade. We cannot do it on our own, that is why we have come to partner with your office”.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Agency, Hon. Bassey Effiom said the main purpose of the visitation is to establish a working relationship with the Bakassi LGA and to also intimate the council boss, Hon. Iyadim A. Iyadim that there is an agency called the “Greater Calabar Capital City Development Agency”, adding that the agency would continue to partner with the LGA as activities unfold.

Responding, Bakassi LGA chairman, Hon. Iyadim A. Iyadim said Bakassi as a Local Government has lost a whole lot of projects, adding that, as the chairman of the LGA he would welcome every government agency, both federal, state and any other, provided it will attract development to his local government area.

Iyadim who expressed displeasure over the dead of a policeman who was killed at a checkpoint, said he so concerned about rising cases of militancy in the area, adding that he would do any possible to bring an end to insecurity in the LGA.
