We can’t be distracted by blackmail, Says Ayade’s Anti-Deforestation task force committee

By our correspondent, Calabar

The attention of Cross River State interim Taskforce Committee has been drawn to a malicious report tagged ‘The illegality of Gov. Ayade’s Anti-Deforestation Taskforce Committee’, where false accusations were raised concerning the committee.

Its quite disheartening that the writer of the said publication did not investigate properly before writing the report.

It is worthy of note to say that Gov. Ben Ayade set up the committee with strict rules, operational approaches and a reward system to boost efficiency and improve service delivery.

On assumption into office, the committee held a meeting and developed a framework for operations across the three Senatorial Districs of the state.

We set up a Marshall team to help us check the illegal movements of these woods and work with security agencies to arrest them.

In Central alone, we have arrested over 10 trucks and taken them to Calabar and his Excellency has rewarded us accordingly with N500,000 for each truck.

With this reward system in place, why then should we compromise when we have the needed logistics, operational vehicles and security support to do our job effectively.

To the best of our knowledge, we are doing our job creditably and for anyone to try to tarnish our activities, that person or group of persons cannot distract us from setting good records.

A few days after taking off, I paid Hon. Abubakar Ewa a visit to get the handover note from him. Also, I and Hon. Ewa have a good working relationship, having been co-coordinators of Sen. Ayade’s campaign team for Boki 1 and 2 state Constituencies respectively.

We have told the general public to report to us if they found any of our Marshalls in sharp practices.

The false report also accused the committee of collecting N90,000 from each truck of wood, this and many others are lies because each truck we ever see laden with wood is arrested and taken to Calabar.

The false report could be coming from a member of the committee who is fighting to get the seat of the Chairman, who thinks that a woman cannot perform her duties, but our Chairman, a lady of good track records is firm, committed, transparent and well focus in her job schedules.

For the record, I Erasmus Ekpang served as a Community Relations Officer for Boki 2 and I gave out my best even when I was receiving the least payment then. My hard work earned me the PAN African Award for excellence service delivery.

We will not be shaken by the activities of blackmaillers and alarmist, we will continue to discharge our duties transparently and creditably.
