We Missed Killing Samuel Ortom Because of A Minor Communication Error — Says Fulani Herdsmen
The Fulani Nationality Movement (FUNAM) is said to have assumed responsibility for the attack on Governor Samuel Ortom’s convoy in Benue state.
According to PM News, the shadowy party said the attack was an assassination attempt on the governor in a statement signed by one Umar Amir Shehu.
Governor Ortom was assassinated on Saturday, March 20.
The attack was carried out by FUNAM in retaliation for the governor’s conduct against the Fulani people, according to the group. It reported that 11 of its representatives carried out the raid, with the governor escaping due to a minor technical communication mistake.
“Our brave fighters carried out this historic attack to send a powerful message to Ortom and his collaborators: wherever you are, once you are against Fulani long-term interests, we will bring you down,” FUNAM said. This is a strong cautionary statement. We hope that those who take us for granted understand the clear message.”
The group also threatened to attack Ortom, as well as any state or person who opposes the Rural Grazing Areas Act (RUGA).
Legit.ng was unable to determine if FUNAM exists in fact or whether the comment was made by a fifth columnist party.
Meanwhile, governors elected on the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform have responded to Governor Samuel Ortom’s assassination attempt. This was revealed in a statement issued on Sunday, March 21.
According to The Cable, the statement was signed by Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the chairman of the forum and the governor of Sokoto state. It stated that any attempt to harm any Nigerian is an attempt on all Nigerians.
According to a separate report, Nigeria’s Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Adamu, has ordered a full investigation into the attack and suspected assassination attempt on Benue state governor Samuel Ortom. This was revealed in a series of tweets sent out by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on Sunday, March 21.
While condemning the heinous incident, Adamu ordered Benue’s commissioner of police to beef up security in the state, particularly around the governor.
