Dr. Linda Ayade grant £1,000 cheques to emerged winners of the Linda Ayade literary and Afi Ekong Visual Art Competition in Cross River.

The Cross River state government foster skill and talents development through the Dr. Linda Ayade literary art competition.

The First Lady of Cross River State, Her Excellency, Dr. Mrs. Linda Ayade, an health specialist queen size her philanthropic empathy to champion young skillful and talented youths in Cross River state on knowledge and creativity, thus biding breeds of prolific writers and creative artist in oneness to promote the state culture and historical heritage via innovativeness and creativity.

Mr. Emmanuel Etim, The Senior Special Adviser (SSA) to the Governor on Creative and Knowledge Economy who anchored the competition expressed to newsmen the key objectives of the competition.

Emmanuel speaking, “I heartily appreciate Her Excellency, Dr. Mrs. Linda Ayade for her giant stride and full supports as pledge for the completion of this competition.
He said, “this competition is foremost and historical in Cross river state with the aimed to raise and nurture young prolific writers, creative artist and poetics.

Etim assured, the newsmen on the continuity and sustainability of the Dr. Linda Ayade literary Art competition edging toward advancing other creative industry’s.

Emmanuel speaking, “This competition is structured for continuity and advancement for an inaugural series. However, there will be a tweak to incorporate and promote other industry’s, such as, Music, Fashion and Movie”. Etim said.

Amongst, the ample applicants for Dr. Mrs. Linda Ayade literary and Afi Ekong Visual Art competition, four persons were successfully selected as the emerge winner on diverse category.

The winners include Precious Ajang in the poetry category, Victoria Ana in the prose category, Peter Eneji in the visual art category and Idorenyin Ekpa in the photography category.

Speaking during the award ceremony the Speaker of the Cross River House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Eteng Williams said that youths do not need to beg because they can make it with their intelligence creativity.

Williams encouraged the awardees to ensure that they moved further in winning other national and international awards like the Nigeria Liquified Natural Gas (NLNG) prize for literary creativity.

“The future lies in the arts, your phones should not just be used for unnecessary things like gossips but creativity and things that can yield you money at least to buy data.

“To the young ones, the future is in your hands, Cross River is waiting for you but from what I have seen here today, there is hope”, he said.

In his remark Mr. Emmanuel Etim the Senior Special Adviser (SSA) to the Governor on Creative and Knowledge Economy said the creative industry holds great potentials for the state and nation at large.

Etim said although Africa was yet to harness the great benefit of art, the Governor of the State, Prof. Ben Ayade in his wisdom has created the office of Creative and Knowledge Economy to inspire creative residents of the state.

“Although, we are doing well in the movie and music industries, we need to encourage other upcoming genres of art like poetry, photography and fashion designing.

“In the next two decades, oil will be out of fashion, so, we need to start looking into our God given talents and develop them for our benefit; we need to come together to push this industry to develop our state and nation”, he said.

Receiving the awards, the recipients thanked the state government for the opportunity given to them to show case their talents adding that they will continue to strive to improve in their careers

They also appealed to the government to sustain the event so that more young minds with exceptional creative skills would benefit.
