Wike Tears Secondus Apart, Says NWC Members Prefer Their Offices To PDP Presidency

Nyesom Wike has formally parted ways with his one-time political collaborator and national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus as he accused him and the PDP leadership of putting thier personal interest ahead of the collective interest of the party.

Wike in an interview said that Secondus and his National Working Committee, NWC would prefer to hold on to their offices than for the party to win the 2023 presidential election.

Wike who vowed to never defect to the All Progressives Congress, APC said it was regrettable that instead of capitalising on the inefficiency and maladministration that has characterised the APC, said the Secondus leadership was rather deepening the cracks in the PDP.

Wike’s onslaught on the PDP leadership with Wike as chairman is bound to put political actors at their wits end given the energetic role of the governor in foisting Secondus as national chairman.

Wike in the interview described as disingenuous the decision of the NWC to jettison the recommendations of Benue State governor, Samuel Ortom led committee set up to reconcile the party in Niger and Plateau States, just  because of its vested interest in Niger State.

The governor accused the current leadership of NWC of merely  being interested in retaining current structure of the party to remain in power, and not to win the 2023 election.

“The present National Working Committee is not interested or doing anything to take over the realms of government in 2023. When your interest is to remain in power, you are no longer interested in winning election.”

The governor said his outburst was on the fact that he could never defect to the APC, hence his determination that the PDP does not collapse.

Governor Wike also faulted President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision not to honour the invitation of the House of Representatives saying the level of insecurity leading to deaths, particularly in Borno State and other parts of the country ought to have compelled him to keep his promise of honouring the invitation.
