Wike and Amaechi Fight Dirty In Rivers State
While referring to defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Sunday, Amaechi claimed that Wike damaged all of the job-creation plans and initiatives he began in the state as Governor.
Dr. Reason Onya, the former commissioner for Urban Development and Rural Planning, and Agriculture, Charles Nwaorgu, as well as their followers, defected from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress (APC) (PDP).
According to the Minister, while serving as Governor, his administration established a number of agricultural programs that provided job possibilities for adolescents.
He stated, “Rivers State is clearly in risk.” A state in which property has been accumulated and someone is busily building everywhere while no one speaks.
“God knows, I did my best when I was Governor. I didn’t just create roads; I also built schools. I didn’t just build roads; I also built power. I designed and developed farms. I made a job for myself. Rivers State did not have the highest rate of unemployment in Nigeria.
“I had the impression that you hired me. I was your servant, not your master. I wasn’t a freelancer. I paid contractors so they could pay their employees and the funds would circulate.
“The high rate of crime in Rivers State is due to unemployment. That is why we established the Songhai Farm. The Songhai Farm is no longer standing. That is why they came to a halt at Khana at the Banana Farm.
“That is why we had fish farms and were constructing a farm in Etche. We were doing everything we could to help young people find work. That is why we hired 13,200 teachers and sent our youth to study in other countries.”
Wike, on the other hand, was quick to respond, accusing Amaechi of being deceitful in blaming the state’s insecurity on unemployment.
“Is unemployment fueling insecurity in the All Progressives Congress (APC)-governed states of Kaduna, Plateau, Borno, Yobe, Ondo, Ebony, Imo, and Niger?” he asked.
The Governor added that if the Minister, who is also the immediate former Governor, was honest, he would agree that protection is purely the responsibility of the federal government in a statement made by his Special Assistant for Media, Kelvin Ebiri.
“Is he (Amaechi) attempting to indict his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, who is the Commander in Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and is constitutionally tasked with providing security for Nigerians?” he asked.
It is well knowledge that Amaechi is the one who has appointed every Commissioner of Police in Rivers State since 2015. As a result, if there is a security breach, he is to blame.”
Wike slammed the minister’s remarks on the state’s new curfew, which was enacted in reaction to recent attacks on police units.
“Perhaps the minister is pleased that members of the banned Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) are murdering innocent police officers who were safeguarding lives and property,” he remarked. Is Amaechi pleased that the hoodlums took the firearms of these deceased security personnel? Amaechi appears to have lost his focus and is now frustrated.”
The Governor stated that his administration had offered scholarships to over 500 Rivers students to attend PAMO University to study medicine and other related disciplines.
In response to the Minister’s assertion that he was purchasing property in the state, the Governor stated that purchasing property in Nigeria was preferable to purchasing property in Ghana.
According to Wike, Amaechi’s happiness over the defection of his former Commissioner of Urban and Rural Planning, who was convicted by a Judicial Commission of Inquiry, is a proof that he is politically irrelevant in Rivers.
The Governor also advised the Minister to return to Abuja and rectify the financial mismanagement that has afflicted federal agencies under his watch, as well as stop from causing damage to other people’s property.
