Wike Attack Buhari Why He Hasn’t Sacked Isa Pantami, Minister of Communication, Says Pantami Must Resign Immediately

…I Can’t See Why A Reasonable Government Would Appoint Such A Individual To The Cabinet — Wike

Regardless of his recent reversal, Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has asked Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Dr. Isa Pantami to resign immediately.

In an ideal society, the allegation that the United States of America had put a serving Minister on its watch list would be enough to prompt the government to act, according to the Governor.

The Governor spoke on Tuesday during an interview with the African Independent Television (AIT) in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, according to a statement signed by Wike’s Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri.

He called the Federal Government’s decision to remain silent in the face of a raging controversy over the Minister’s sympathies with global terrorist organizations “worrisome.”

He said, “I don’t understand why a responsible government would allow such an individual to be in the cabinet.”

The Governor said that the APC-led Federal Government was notorious for shielding suspects even though the country’s secret service provided overwhelming evidence against them.

“However, you were present when the DSS wrote a report against (Ibrahim) Magu,” he said. What went wrong? Look, I’ve never seen a country where the secret service wrote a paper about Mr. President’s candidate, challenging his integrity and other issues, and concluding that he is unfit for office. What went wrong? So, what exactly are you referring to? Magu was eliminated as part of a power play.”

Wike also chastised the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Working Committee for failing to take strict disciplinary action against former Niger Governor, Dr. Mu’azu Babangida Aliyu, who recently said he conspired with others to ensure President Goodluck Jonathan lost the 2015 presidential election.

“If I were the party’s leadership, I would have suspended Aliyu for that remark he made,” he said. However, as you can see, nothing can happen. Nothing will be done by the National Working Committee. What is the reason for this? They need Aliyu’s assistance.

“I don’t understand why, as a leader, you come out and tell the world why you and your party fought. I’ve never seen anything like it in my life. Assuming you did so, you now want to rub it in their faces and hope for the best.

“If I were in charge of the party, I would have suspended Aliyu, and the sky would not have fallen. What is it that he wishes to accomplish? This was in 2015, and we are now in the midst of the 2019 election. Why have you come out now to say how you fought Jonathan after he lost in 2015? Take a look at where we are now. So, you’re telling us that we’re in this situation because you put us there.

You’re asking Nigerians that you’re one of the people responsible for the country’s current situation. Since Aliyu Babangida is one of the untouchables, the National Working Committee can do nothing.”
